For support coordinators, hospitals & families
Eating well and keeping the fridge stocked should not be a struggle. Home Care Experts provides practical, personalised support with grocery shopping and meal preparation so you can maintain your independence and enjoy nutritious food every day.
For many people living with disability, illness, or complex care needs, something as everyday as buying groceries or preparing a hot meal can become a significant challenge. Whether it is difficulty getting to the shops, managing fatigue, physical limitations, or simply the need for an extra pair of hands in the kitchen, Home Care Experts is here to help.
Our support workers do not just tick boxes. They take the time to understand your food preferences, dietary needs, and routines so that the support they provide genuinely fits your life. Whether you want to be involved in cooking or prefer someone to handle it entirely, we work around your preferences.
All shopping and meal assistance is delivered under your NDIS Core Supports funding, under the Household Tasks registration group (0120). We charge in line with the NDIS Price Guide.
Our support covers everything from planning your meals to putting food on the table. Here is a breakdown of what we can help with.
We accompany you to the supermarket or shop on your behalf, following your list and preferences to make sure you have everything you need.
Our support workers can help you plan weekly meals that suit your dietary requirements, budget, and taste preferences.
We prepare fresh, nutritious meals in your home breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks according to your routine and preferences.
We can prepare larger quantities of food at once so you have ready made meals available throughout the week, reducing the need for daily cooking.
Whether you have allergies, follow a specific diet for health reasons, or have cultural food preferences, we accommodate your needs with care and respect.
We can help you set up and manage online grocery orders so shopping can happen from the comfort of your home when getting out is not possible.
For participants who need assistance at mealtimes such as help with eating or drinking our trained support workers provide respectful, dignified assistance.
After meals are prepared or eaten, we tidy the kitchen, wash up, and leave your space clean and ready for next time.
We help keep your pantry and fridge organised, check use by dates, and make sure your food storage is safe and practical.
Shopping and meal assistance is suitable for a wide range of participants. If any of the following apply, this support could make a real difference to your daily life.
Participants who find it physically difficult to get to shops, carry bags, stand at a stove, or manage kitchen tasks due to mobility limitations or chronic pain.
People living with conditions that cause significant fatigue, such as MS, cancer, or heart conditions, where cooking and shopping drain limited energy reserves.
Participants with ABI who need support with planning, sequencing, and safely executing tasks like cooking that require multiple steps.
People experiencing mental health challenges who struggle to maintain regular nutrition and benefit from consistent, non judgemental practical support.
Participants with intellectual disability or dementia who need guidance and supervision when shopping or preparing meals to stay safe and independent.
People returning home from hospital who are recovering and need temporary intensive support while they regain their strength and routine.
Getting shopping and meal assistance in place is straightforward. Here is how it works from first contact to support underway.
We start by talking with you and your support coordinator or family if relevant to understand your dietary preferences, routine, and what kind of support would work best for you.
We develop a simple support plan that outlines what shopping and meal tasks will be covered, how often, and any specific requirements such as allergies or cultural preferences.
We match you with a support worker whose skills, availability, and personality are a good fit for your needs. You always have input into who supports you.
Your support starts on the agreed schedule. We check in regularly to make sure everything is going well and adjust if anything needs to change.
Shopping and meal assistance is funded under Core Supports Household Tasks (0120) in your NDIS plan. If you are not sure whether you have this funding, check your plan or ask your support coordinator.
If you do not yet have an NDIS plan, check your eligibility here.
Do not have NDIS funding for this support? Home Care Experts also provides shopping and meal assistance on a private basis. Contact us to discuss options.
